The Edge Of - Definitive Edition

If the original The Edge Of is the ground breaking Demon’s Souls of Hangover Cat games, The Edge Of Definitive Edition is the Demon’s Souls Remake. That is to say, in the departments of technologically and production quality a superior adaptation, but some of the artistic choices did not feel like an improvement. The art style is more of a sidegrade, not really batter. This is especially apparent in the cover of the game, wher the old version looks better and even higher quality. The character designs are, in my opinion, generally inferior to the old ones, and especially the male sprites look rather off. I really liked the original sprites.
Despite these artistic failings, it is still an exceptional game and a story, still the same thign I fell in love with years ago and declared it my favorite NTR game at the time. While things like backgrounds feel a bit left out, there is no denying that the DE has brought at least something to the table. The addition of animations has brougth many of the scenes life like never before, and the animation quality is amazing even compared to some animations from the newer Hangover Cat Games. I don’t think there is a single bad animation in the game. That one scene where the phone slips from Beth’s hand, so smooth.
And like back then, this game still has some amazing, top tier scenes. The blue dress scene is not only the best bathroom scene HSelf has made, but also one of the best scenes ever made by the cat. The against the door van screen could also be considered the best car scene HSelf has made, though I am not sure there is too much competition in that category. Also thing to praise: Hangover Cat blow job scenes have been very hit and miss over the years, but I don’t think Edge Of DE has any bad BJ scenes.
One of the funniest lines in the game is delivered by Beth: “He thinks about my husband a bit too much for my taste “ Damn right. That is a bot overly consistent characteristic of HSelf bulls, thanks for noticing Beth.
The Beth POV scenes added are generally good, though since a lot of them focus on the very endgame of the corruption process, they are feeling just a little excessive in a sense that makes me think the original game actually stopped Beth POV in a pretty good spot. It is a bit similar to how I felt when the Aya edition had Harry POV continue longer than Aya’s; endings that like the world actually pretty decently and don’t bloat the end where the NTR process is already past its prime. And I feel it was nice to get inside Beth’s head to see how she feels about calling Sam a cuck and being so awful to him. I did notice that the impregnation scene(s) were handled weirdly differently between the two POVs, being effectively two different scenes. The impregnation felt planned in Sam POV, but completely spontaneous in Beth POV, and Sam is not even present in her POV around that scene.
There were very minor errors. I spotted maybe 3 typos (Counting the Hself in the credits), and at one point after the Van squatting comstume scene the shaking effect bugged and remained way past the scene, though eventually fixing itself. Also, in the Beth shoping scene at the bakery, her friend is called Jane, but when Beth is kissed she calls her friend Elizabeth for some reason.
All in all The Edge Of DE is a flawed remaster of a top tier game. It has its flaws, but stuff like animation, which is of extreme importance to me personally, makes it so it really has something to offer. While I will always be nostalgic for the original one, this is a very good version for new people to experience. The original The Edge Of is a 10/10, but since the remastering was not perfect, I am forced to give the Definite Edition the score of 9/10 Lauras.

Never played the original Edge Of. I was about to play the og ver but then I saw this was halfway through development and I thought it best to wait for it since Hself said that it would have new content that was not in the og and I was not disappointed. I also don't know if there was supposed to be a lot of mystery or a surprise/gotcha for Drew being the bull when William was mostly played to be suspect number 1, but I was able to quickly figure out that Drew was actually the bull and William wasn't so props to me, I guess.

Playing through Sam's POV was pretty good; a few really good scenes from the cuck POV, another reason I was looking forward to playing this game, since some people have said that Edge Of had some of the best cuck POV scenes from Hself's catalogue. I wasn't the biggest fan of the "Yes" route, though, mostly because Sam, in just one thought while reading a fake website he 99% knew he didn't make and a flashback to a very brief convo with Drew, made him believe that he was more or less schizo, which is kinda funny, but not really what I wanted for how the NTR would continue. It also got a bit less believable when Beth and Drew started to gaslight him into believing everything that was happening cuz of this one belief that he made a website, so it didn't really help my suspension of disbelief for the route, but some scenes were hot so I more or less gave it a pass. The "No" route being much shorter was a bit of a letdown, but it still accomplished Sam despairing from losing Beth when she fully decides to ruin his life and frame him to be with Drew, kicking him while he's down when he's already at rock bottom.

Now, for Beth, her scenes were pretty good, almost becoming my 2nd fav heroine from Hself's lineup of games. I'm glad that this game came to be since not only did we get an upgrade to the art for sex scenes, but extra content was added that was not in the og. But I do wish we got 2 extra scenes added; the night during Sam's birthday would've been pretty hot to see, and for some reason we never got to see the scene of Drew creampieing Beth when Drew asked Sam to get him condoms through her POV, which I feel was a bit of a missed opportunity. Still, those are the only 2 scenes I would've liked to have seen added alongside the new content. The VA for Beth was pretty good as well, especially in the latter half of the game. Earlier scenes and dialogue that she recorded definitely weren't as good, maybe because of either the VA knowing that Hself was a Western dev and them not putting 100% effort into their lines at the beginning, or because they're still relatively inexperienced in voice acting. Idk, but it was nice to hear them act better during and after the drinking contest/master-servant relationship inception part of the game.

Overall, pretty good game, still not the best game/story Hself has done, but solid nonetheless; def recommend others play it if they haven't played the og Edge Of, and even if you have, the new content, updated art style, and VA make it worth replaying since the game can be read in an afternoon.
